“The eyes are the most important part of my paintings. They are what I
paint first, and then I work my way out from there.” K. Henderson’s subject
matter is Native American, both contemporary and historical. She adds,
“Sometimes I am inspired by simple things such as a painted face at a pow
wow and a painting is born.”
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a family with strong ties to their heritage,
Henderson carefully researches her work for historical accuracy. Working
mainly in oils, her study of past masters blends with the culture of home
and are fully expressed in her detailed representational work.
