He
Sapa,
an original mixed media by Jim Yellowhawk reveals how the world above us is
mirrored here on Earth. The Earth map is based on a satellite image of the
Black Hills, created by South Dakota School of Mines and Technology student
Mark Fersdahl while working at the United States Geological Survey’s EROS
Data Center near Sioux Falls. (Open edition mini-print also available.)

A resident of the Black
Hills and an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Jim
Yellowhawk experiments with innovative media, including neon light, mixed
media, air brush, bark paper collage and even painting on umbrellas. He
employs traditional symbols in his work and many of his creations are
circular and evocative of star legends in night sky scenes. In addition to
his full-time art career, Jim enjoys traditional dancing, riding his Indian
motorcycle, and spending time with his family. For the past three years,
Yellowhawk has been our featured, on-site artist during the famed Sturgis
Motorcycle Rally the first week of every August.
Warrior's Work carries
Yellowhawk originals, two of which are featured here, and all of his limited
and open edition prints. Print prices start at $35 and average about $125.
